Chapter Six
Xavier woke up sore but relaxed. They’d had sex two more times, and he doubted any more moisture could be pulled from his body. He rolled over to find the best view he’d ever had in bed with him.
Brent’s handsome features relaxed in sleep and gained an innocence he’d long lost awake. Anyone who investigated crashes had to have had some harrowing experiences.
Xavier’s fingers had a mind of their own as they stretched to slide across Brent’s cheek before entangling in Brent’s thick hair. When Brent moved, Xavier jerked his hand back.
Brent grabbed Xavier’s wrist and opened his eyes. “You can touch me anytime.”
Sadness wafted over him. Xavier wouldn’t have more than a few hours left to touch Brent. “I wish I could.”
“Me too.” Brent slid a hand around Xavier’s shoulder, skating his callused fingers across Xavier’s bare skin. “Me too.”
“Let’s take a shower and get some breakfast before your meeting.” Xavier bit his lip. Tension slowly seeped back into his body. Whatever happened today could change the rest of his life even more than meeting Brent. If only he could keep Brent snuggled up beside him forever.
“Good idea.” Brent smiled. “It’s set for noon. Are you going to stick around in case I have follow-up questions from the investigation?”
“Yeah. I’ll wait to book a flight until after your meeting. When do I need to be out of the hotel?”
Brent kissed Xavier’s forehead before moving back. “I only reserved it for one night since I thought you’d head right back out. Why don’t you move your stuff in here? That way we don’t have to worry about timing if the meeting runs long.”
“Okay.” Xavier tried to act nonchalant, but the idea of another night spent in Brent’s arms had him hard again.
Brent slapped Xavier’s ass. “Problem’s solved. Let’s shower together. I hate to waste water.”
“Stop that.” Xavier grinned. He couldn’t help it. Brent made him smile. “You’re right, we should share the shower. I mean there’s bound to be a water shortage if we don’t take care. Save the earth and all that.”
“Exactly.” Brent nodded.
In good spirits, they headed to the bathroom. Wet skin and slippery soap led to a mutual rubbing off. Boneless and happy, they dried off with big fluffy towels.
Xavier wallowed in Brent’s kiss for a few minutes before pulling away. “If we keep that up, we won’t have time for breakfast.”
“Hmm. Good point. I’ll walk you to your room. I’m not sure what time checkout is, but better to get it taken care of now than stress about it while we’re waiting for our food.”
“Okay.” Xavier almost hoped they’d need him after the meeting. He did have to return to England, but one more night in Brent’s arms would give him more memories to wrap around himself during his lonely nights. Damn, he’d become way too attached to Brent for the short time he’d known him.
Brent pressed his lips against Xavier’s, pulling his attention back to the present instead of pondering his lonely future. “Let’s go, babe.
